Western Gateway Heritage State Park is a state-run Visitor's Center/Museum chronicling the history of the Hoosac Tunnel 1850-1875 and the history of North Adams. It is housed in the former Boston & Maine freighthouse. The exhibit features a multi-media display of photographs, maps, timetables and an audio presentation of the sounds of the building of the tunnel, political debates and ghost stories. Changing exhibits vary from historical to local artisan and craftspeople's works. We sponsor concerts of local musicians in the summer and programs for families and children such as environmental art workshops.
