I was born in the shadow of the Statue of Liberty, she has inspired me ever since. After my art training in NYC, I was ready for a change and relocated to Western Massachusetts drawn by its beauty and tranquility. My husband and I found a “handyman special” in the Berkshires, which over the course of several years we renovated. This home became the inspiration for my “HouseWorks.” In the beginning, my house paintings echoed my personal journey later transformed to universal themes about social justice, climate change, spirituality and the role of women in our society.
I've been a curator over 35 years. My first experience was curating with Marcia Tucker, founder of the New Museum while I was student in college (SUNY), Since then I've curated exhibitions at Northampton Center for the Arts, Canal Gallery, Deerfield Arts Bank, Nashawannuck Gallery and Amherst Public Arts Commission (APAC). During my tenure as Chair of APAC, I produced Shedding Light, lighting of a tobacco barn for Amherst 250th , White House installation at Emily Dickinson Museum, Art in the Park (Kendrick Park) and created the Amherst Biennial. One of my favorite exhibitions was Pioneer Women, which began in Easthampton as a small work exhibit in Easthampton, MA then became Pioneer Women traveling to Tabla Rasa Gallery, Brooklyn, NYC, to museums and alternative art spaces around New England. My next project is WOW: Wild Ornery Women which will premiere in Workshop13, Ware this Fall.
