Shandyce Willis is a mixed media, visual artist based in Springfield, Ma. She considers herself not just an artist, but a creative. To her that means she is not restricted to any form of art or creation. She is intentional about using a range of art mediums that help to visibly depict the messages in her art expression. Her mediums include thrifted vintage artifacts, historical images, acrylic paint, glass, and other mixed media. However, the primary medium that Shandyce has homed in on since 2018, is Epoxy Resin.
Shandyce is most inspired by images and narratives of the Black experience, both historical and present day. Within her artistic expression, she more specifically speaks to the experience of the Black Woman and the embrace, or lack thereof, that the Black Woman receives.
Shandyce has displayed and sold art at various showcases and art exhibits in the Western Massachusetts area, as well as out of state. July 2021, Shandyce curated an art show in Springfield, Ma, not only showcasing her own work, but also that of three other local artists to the community. In 2021 and 2022, Shandyce was awarded artist grants through a local program that empowers artists, Mass MoCA Valley Creates. Shandyce continues to work towards her goals as a growing artist, while aiming for her major goal of opening a public gallery and art space in and for her community.
