Nina Rossi

Artist / Creative (Individual)

My work ranges from collaborative installations to solo projects using images, words, sounds, and objects. Since the root of the word Art had an original meaning in Greek of "put together well," I just describe myself as someone who "puts things together well." I can compose with sound or taste or assemblage of forms and colors, and I have an ever-expanding toolkit as I happen across those projects which engage my curious mind and open heart.

Collaborative work with Exploded View, an all-women artist and writer performance art group, has been exciting over the past five years. We have worked on themes of domestic violence; produced, printed, and distributed an alternative version of a newspaper for a Word festival; created an exhibit on the theme of Paper with a related performance called Dead Lines [all of us have ties to the field of journalism as writers, editors, and illustrators]; curated and performed a show called You Are Here about personal geography; created two site specific, interactive Bee Hive installations at the Pushkin Gallery in Greenfield; produced a short film, “Bitter Sweet Feast,” during COVID – and more.

For nine years, I ran my own gallery in Turners Falls, Nina's Nook, but closed in March 2020 due to COVID. I featured the work of myself and guest artists, and hosted an annual curated erotic art exhibit in February called Triple SSS: Sensual, Sexual, Smut. I have also been a longtime member of the Shelburne Arts Cooperative. During COVID, I created a public art project in Turners Falls called the Pedestal Take Over

I work for a small nonprofit weekly community newspaper, the Montague Reporter, as features editor, writer, and illustrator. I play bass in two bands, an all-female, all-original rock band called She Said, and a Chicago-style blues band called Little House Blues

I assisted My son, Jon Bander on a commission in September, 2021 making a 13-foot-tall steampunk cherry tree in conjunction with ModVic and Bruce Rosenbaum, a steampunk imagineer. In 2023, we collaborated on a sculpture installation at the Greenfield MA public library.

I've also produced two adult coloring albums, Psychedelic Turners Falls and the Bridge of Flowers.

Over the part several years I have completed “Auto Partitas” a series of a dozen triptychs inspired by autoparts. In 2024 I have been creating digital paintings that are printed on aluminum and then embellished with glass rhinestones. Find photos of my work on Instagram @ninamorfati.
