Música Franklin

School of the Arts

Música Franklin is a free after-school music and social justice program for students in elementary, middle, and high school in Franklin County. All students participate in ensemble-based singing, drumming, step-dancing, and either violin or cello. Students also receive instruction on piano, ukulele, and music theory. In weekly social justice discussions, students learn to give voice and context to their lived experiences and to discuss current events and issues in a safe environment. We serve a diverse group of students from many different backgrounds. Our curriculum includes classical music alongside many other genres of music, from spirituals and protest songs to folk songs from Africa, Asia, and Europe, as well as American music written by Black and Latino/a/e composers.
