Milena Dabova is an actor, dancer and choreographer originally from Bulgaria, whose primary work since 2009 has been with Double Edge Theatre in Ashfield, MA. Coming from a strong movement background, Dabova researches embodiment and physical transformation as a theatre performer and as a creator and teacher of movement. With the Double Edge Ensemble, she has created roles in indoor performances and traveling site-specific spectacles which have toured nationally and internationally, and has choreographed dances for the theatre with inspiration ranging from folk traditions to paintings by surrealist artist Leonora Carrington. As part of her choreographic work, Dabova leads dance research with people who do not have formal dance training, including youth, and incorporates this work into Double Edge's performances. She is also a leader of Double Edge's actor training methodology at the company's center in Ashfield as well as in university residencies.
Dabova is also a fine art model, vocalist and voiceover artist, and has worked in film as an actor and dancer. In Bulgaria, Dabova was trained in modern dance, rhythmic gymnastics and aikido before coming to the US to study at Amherst College in 2002. She graduated from Amherst College summa cum laude and has worked with several dance companies in Bulgaria and the US.
