Laura Christensen’s artwork has been featured in galleries and museums, including Kidspace at MASS MoCA, The Art Complex Museum, Bennington Museum, Simmons College, and The Rotch-Jones-Duff House.
Laura received MASS MoCA’s “Assets for Artists” Professional Development Grant and a 2021 Finalist Award in Photography from the Artist Fellowship Program of the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
In 2016 she was awarded her second Artists’ Resource Trust (A.R.T.) Grant, a fund of the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, this one in support of her book project, THEN AGAIN: Vintage Photography Reimagined by One Artist and Thirty-One Writers.
To raise additional funds to create THEN AGAIN, Laura ran a successful Kickstarter campaign. Now she offers crowdfunding workshops and coaching to help others crowdfund for their projects.
Laura artwork explores memory, history, observation, and imagination. She creates responses to antique photographs by transforming them, usually by painting directly onto the surfaces. New stories develop from and in relationship with the old.
