Born in New York City of artist parents, Jane Hudson has pursued the life of an artist through rock music, video art, photography and painting as well as teaching artists for many years at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
Jane received an NEA for her work in Video, and showed large abstract paintings in Boston at the Atlantic Gallery, Nielsen Gallery and Segal Gallery in Boston. She is also a composer and musical performer.
The current work, whether gouache on paper or acrylic on canvas, explores motifs familiar from the early Modernists and Constructivists, ie, Delaunay, El Lezitsky, Kandinsky, etc. The spaces are complex and sometimes confounding, and the color operates vibrationally. In addition I have been reacting to the embellishments of Medieval Manuscript Illumination while exploring the dynamics of radiance, its infusion in all things, within the language of abstraction. ,Helena Blavatsky’s Secret Doctrine, a treatise on cosmology, evolution and time, has in part inspired these works.
Hudson’s paintings have been shown locally at Hudson Art, Images Cinema, Tunnel City Coffee in Williamstown and at Mass MoCA , Spring St. Market and Café, Gallery 51 in North Adams as well as The Left Bank, No. Bennington, VT and iartcolony Gallery in Rockport, MA.
