Fern Katz is a freelance contemporary dancer with a focus on physical dance theater. She is a graduate of Goddard College (VT) with a degree in Dance and Birth Studies as well as a recipient of the Professional Contemporary Training Certification at Gibney Dance Center (NYC). Between her training in Western Massachusetts and NYC, she has had the chance to study with masters including intensive training with Shannon Gillen's VIM/VIGOR dance company, Jennifer Nugent, Janet Panetta, and many others. Fern has had the pleasure of performing with Moving Arts Ensemble under the direction of Terre Vandale, Compañia Sharon Fridman, Opera Nouveau and many others, performing everywhere from Jacob's Pillow, to Lincoln Center with Buglisi Dance Theatre, outdoor site-specific performances and beyond.
With a wide techincal range, Fern has studied ballet, contemporary forms, Dunham technique, hiphop/breaking, and has a special interest in phsyical dance theater, partnering, and contemporary floorwork.
Fern currently works as a solo artist, as the co-founder/co-choreographer/dancer at VEERdance Company (MA), rehearsal director for O.R. Projects (NYC), and a collaborator with Smith College MFA recipient Michelle Erard (MA). As an artist/dance maker, Fern desires to engage with communities and the landscape to create large-scale, site-specific performances.
