Writing the Land: Winter Poetry Workshop
Date/Time
Location
Kestrel Land Trust (37 Bay Road, Amherst, MA 01002, Amherst MA)
The land nourishes all lifeforms, including us. Who are we as humans in relation to the natural world that sustains us? One way to explore this question is through reading and writing poetry. As winter winds down, come celebrate the spirit of the land and the power of words with a **poetry writing workshop** for everyone. No experience required!
This event is based on ***Writing the Land: Wanderings II*,** an anthology of poems inspired by conserved lands from Maine to Washington State. **Tina Meyer**, author of two poems about the **Sweet Alice Conservation Area** that appear in this anthology, joins us at Kestrel Land Trust’s headquarters in Amherst on **Saturday, March 15, 10:00 am-noon**. During the two-hour event, Tina will guide participants in writing poetry and prose inspired by the natural surroundings around Kestrel’s headquarters at the base of the Mount Holyoke Range.
**Beginning and experienced writers are welcome, *and all participants will receive one free copy of the anthology!*** The workshop will include readings, writing guidance, and feedback by Tina, as well as a short, easy, reflective walk around Plum Brook Pond. Depending on the weather, we will either gather in Kestrel’s sunroom or outside, overlooking the pond. Bring a notebook or a journal.
*“Writing the Land is an attempt to honor nature and our relationship with it in a way that is as equitable and transparent as it is deep and entangled. We intend to be as inclusive—to humans and places—as we hope the mantle of protection that land trusts offer can be. Our work will never be complete but gains strength, depth, beauty, and energy in a multitude of voices.”* — Lis McLoughlin, editor
**Writing the Land** is a collaborative project of the nonprofit **NatureCulture** that brings together poets and land conservation organizations to raise awareness about the importance of land conservation through poetry.
**Registration required. Sliding-scale donation welcome.**
