Wendell Warriors Drumming Group presents : Come Out And Play

The teacher (Jafar Manselle) and his performance group will first play a short set of West African drumrhythms- Jafar will talk briefly about the history of the songs played, what they mean and where they come from- Jafar will then demonstrate the basic hand placements to create the drum sounds to make the music- Then the drums will be handed over to the class participants (as well as percussion instruments) andeveryone will get to practice first making the basic sounds- Then one, or possibly two, songs will be explored with the class and everyone will learn how to play themain rhythm plus other support parts in a group format combining all the different parts to make thepolyrhythmic whole- All drums and percussion instruments to be provided by the teacher, however if anyone has their owndjembe drum, feel free to bring it
