THERE MAY BE RHYTHMS: Jim & Christa Whitten Installation
Date/Time
Location
Anchor House of Artists (518 Pleasant Street ground floor, Northampton, MA 01060, Northampton MA)
**Jim and Christa Whitten** seek meaning in watercolor, hardware, and non-art materials by transforming the central galleries into an environment of unsettling wonder. Each has art pedigrees that have prepared them to be the perfect collaborators. Christa is classically trained in several forms of art and graduated cum laude from Paier College of Art. Jim is a self-styled publisher, printer, and three-dimensional installation artist specializing in fluxist-like arrangements, assemblage, and two-dimensional graphic work. In Gallery One, the Whittens combine Christa's tempestuous, colored paper construction, flowing from one end of the showroom to the other, meeting her husband's sprayed black paper artworks. In Gallery Two, she has installed an oversized, ceiling-mounted paper construction that flows, water-like into the lead way to Gallery Three. Gallery Three is owned by Jim Whitten, paid for with his black and white artworks on paper mounted on steel panels. While it is possible to avoid the consideration of this exhibition in terms of gender, yet given the union's traditional CIS-gender relationship, the discussion of gender relationships is likely to arise.
