The Friday Experiment

A monthly experimental music series formerly known as “The Thursday Experiment” returns to Gateway City Arts as “The Friday Experiment” starting Friday, December 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the Divine Theater. The event is sponsored by Gateway City Live (GCL), GCA’s nonprofit affiliate founded in 2018 with the mission to promote, support, and foster the visual and performing arts and all creative endeavors that enhance the public good.

“The Friday Experiment” is a monthly music series focused on experimental and improvised music; it ran for three years before the pandemic. Curated by internationally renowned experimental musician Bonnie Kane, the series is unique to the Pioneer Valley in its offering, presenting top practitioners in this field who are dedicated to bringing all of their performance skills to the moment of creation. Stellar musicianship, exciting combinations, and adventurous sounds are to be expected, as each performer propels themselves and their ensemble into new and challenging realms.

In celebration of the return of the series, a performance “party” is being held for the opening date. Improvising and experimental artists are invited to sign up for a 10-15 minute slot, uniting old friends and newcomers alike. A complete backline of drums, amps, mics, and a PA will be available. Those who wish to perform are encouraged to come, set up, and sign up at 7 p.m.
