Signs of Spring Photography Workshop Series

Please join naturalist Susan Campbell and photography instructor Norm Eggert for this three-part, in-person series designed to improve your basic photography skills and your artist’s “design eye,” with woodland signs of spring as our photography subject. You will not only learn how to get great photographs of signs of spring, but you will also learn how to identify spring ephemerals (spring wildflowers that bloom just before the forest canopy leafs-out).

**Sunday, April 24th, 1-4pm**

**Skyfields Arboretum**

**1461 Old Keene Road in Athol, MA**

In the first session, Norm will teach participants about the various settings on an adjustable camera and share tips for taking macro shots of wildflowers and other photography shots. Susan will give a short presentation on the ecology and identification of key spring ephemeral wildflowers that bloom in our rich local woodlands, just before canopy foliage shades the forest floor.

**Saturday, April 30th, 1-4pm**

**Montague, MA**

In the second session, the group will take a fieldtrip to local spots in Montague to find and photograph spring ephemerals and other signs of spring, with Norm providing technical photography support and Susan as naturalist. In the case of inclement weather, the alternative event date is scheduled for Sunday, May 1st, 1-4pm.

**A third session will be scheduled with all participants to view their photos indoors at Skyfields Arboretum in Athol.**

These workshops are open to the public, free for Mount Grace members and $40 for non-members. Registration is required as there is a limit of 10 participants. All experience levels are welcome. *We ask that all participants bring their own adjustable camera to all workshops.*

**Susan Campbell** is a retired forester who spent much of her career developing educational programing for forest landowners and professionals on topics that expanded our view of forest values and services. She co-created and led the ephemeral MA Woodlands Cooperative in the 2000’s as an alternative model to the forest ecology/economy, and currently volunteers with Mount Grace, Drawdown Montague, and Center for New Americans. She has lived in Montague for 26 years.

**Norm Eggert** has taught photography classes for many years and currently is an Adjunct Professor of Photography at Mount Wachusett Community College. He and his wife live on a small farm in Phillipston and he enjoys photographing the plants, animals and landscapes found in the North Quabbin Region.
