POLLY FRENCH: Birch Quilt Demo
February 26 at 1pm, Snow date February 27
Come see Polly French create a Birch Quilt, her newest mixed media series. Polly brings her iron and her talented self to the gallery for this demonstration. She will explain about the materials she uses and then create a Birch Quilt right before your eyes!
This is a wonderful chance to ask Polly all the questions you may have. Polly has been showing at Salmon Falls Gallery very close to when the gallery first opened in 1985. She has been working as a professional artist for 50 years. She is certainly the most loved painter we know here at Salmon Falls Gallery! Her portraits of birds, flowers and the landscapes of this region have delighted her fans and brought them back to buy her artwork again and again. This chance to meet her in person and get a glimpse of how she creates her latest series is a precious one.
Below, Polly French describes her creative process for earlier artwork. The Birch Quilts are quite a new direction in technique for her.
“I am more at home in the woods than in a crowd; I hold the area in western Massachusetts close to my heart. I live in Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts, along the Deerfield River. Local woodlands, the river, and my own backyard where I grow native plants provide me with much of my subject matter. As I love to experiment with media, I incorporate a variety of non-traditional techniques along with the traditional in order to achieve the effect I want. The majority of my pieces depict a collaged foreground of realistic wildflowers or birds against an impressionistic background. Sometimes I slip into abstraction or whimsy, or straight landscape.”
The demo will be limited to 12 mask-wearing individuals, spaced per COVID regulations. Go to SalmonFallsGallery.com to sign up online or simply call or email the gallery. The spaces are filling up!
