Old Sturbridge Village, Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend

The Village re-opens for daytime visits on Saturday, January 15th! Every season offers something unique to see or learn about and winter is no exception.
Through the winter months, we will be open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm. We are also open this coming Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day!

Performances
10:30 a.m. & 2:00 p.m. Fashion Delights: Find out what was in style in the 1830s (at the Asa Knight Store).
11:30 a.m. & 3:00 p.m. Meet the School Mistress: Learn about school in the 1830s (at the District School).
1:00 p.m. Read Me a Story: A reading of a children’s tale (at the Friends Meetinghouse).
Music Performances
11:00 a.m. A performance on the New England Church Bass Viol (in the Center Meetinghouse)
Listen to and learn about the church bass or bass viol, an instrument which has not been played in nearly one and a half centuries.
Households
Freeman Farm Fall is here at last, but the family’s work has only just begun. Learn about seasonal food and domestic work on a traditional, middling farm as we bring in the harvest, fill the root cellar, and rejoice in the bounty of the season.
Trades
Cabinetmaking Shop Period cabinetmakers made a wide variety of wares including tables, chairs, chests and other case furniture. Explore our newest trade shop, and learn more about the tools and techniques used by nineteenth century woodworkers.
Community
Asa Knight Store Country stores brought in goods from all over the world, through seaports like Boston and Providence. They also bought locally produced goods such as butter, cheese, and handwork for sale in those urban commercial centers.
New England on Parade
Learn about the long history of parades in this region, and their many purposes. Visit all three of the exhibitions’ locations in the Visitor Center, Countryside Gallery (indicated by “Cabinetmaking Exhibit” on the map), and Militia Exhibit.
The Carryall (weather permitting)
We offer two horse-drawn carryall rides (weather permitting), included with the price of admission, around the Village. Please note from 12:00 – 1:30 pm there are no Carryalls operating.
From 10:00 am – 12:00 pm and 1:30 – 3:15 pm you can board at the Asa Knight Store or the Miner Grant Store about every 45 minutes for a longer ride around the Common and Countryside.

Stop in to buy our famous chocolate chip cookies and treats. Shop for Village-made wares, heirloom seeds, historical children’s toys and gifts, too!
