Ocean Fire Pottery Spring Show
Date/Time
Location
Clark Homestead (77 Depot Road, Hatfield MA)
Potter and Hatfield native Amy Clark is bringing her work home for the Ocean Fire Pottery Western Mass. Spring Show, May 17 5pm-8pm and May 18 & 19 10am-5pm.
Visitors can choose from a huge selection of one-of-a-kind pottery fresh out of the kiln.
Amy learned her craft and launched her career in the area, working out of a studio she built in her family’s tobacco barn in Hatfield. After an extensive apprenticeship with a Vermont potter learning the wood-firing process, she opened her studio and gallery, Ocean Fire Pottery, in York, Maine. She has maintained her many close ties to the area--she has a strong local contingent of fans and collectors, and many Valley businesses have commissioned her work.
A couple times a year, a dedicated group gathers at her studio, coming from Western Mass., Vermont, and elsewhere, to help fire the wood kiln in the backyard. At those times, smoke billows out of the chimney for 24 hours or more, and people work in shifts overnight to feed the flames in a traditional method that brings dramatic results to the pottery.
Grab some friends and come on by. Admission is free and there will be refreshments and fun for all.
