Spælimenninir’s music is as familiar as an old time barn dance and as exotic as the landscape of the Faroe Islands, the band's home in the North Atlantic. Spælimenninir (“the folk musicians”) is a lively group of six musicians that play traditional and contemporary folk music from Scandinavia on fiddle, recorder, piano, guitar, mandolin, acoustic bass, and vocals. The current line-up includes one native Faroese, two Americans, and three Danes. Kristian, Sharon, Ívar, Erling, Lars, and Charlie, traveling and performing together for more than 45 years, continue to inspire and elate multi-generational audiences. This international collaboration has resulted in a varied repertoire which reflects each member’s heritage and illustrates the links between the music traditions of the Scandinavian countries and the United States, drawing on traditions centuries old and compositions new as today.  Spælimenninir has toured widely in Europe and the United States playing at folk festivals, dances, clubs, and concerts, and conducting educational programs in schools and universities.

“The enthusiastic energy of their performance held the audience completely in thrall” - *The Orcadian*, Orkney, UK

“The music is an abundant, rich mixture and it is often overwhelmingly happy” - Åke Grandell, Finnish Broadcasting Company
