New Moon Trans & Nonbinary Writing Stargazing and Collage Workshop to Benefit the Sexual Minorities Archives with Local Author Jendi Reiter!
Join us under the New Moon for a night of stargazing and queer/trans creative exploration in an accessible Belchertown barn. Read Jendi's message to workshop participants:
Let's journal together about identity, desire, and what comes next. We'll make small collages inspired by our writing and anonymously exchange them to receive oracular messages of encouragement from our queer community.
EVENT DETAILS
- WHO: Local author Jendi Reiter and local trans community archivists
- WHAT: Queer/trans writing and collage workshop plus stargazing with a telescope
- WHEN: August New Moon (8/4/24) from 7:30 PM to 10:00 PM
- WHERE: A barn-turned-theater under the stars in a community member's home in Belchertown (address sent upon registration)
- WHY: To support each other in our transitions and raise money to liberate queer/trans history at the Sexual Minorities Archives, a nonprofit in Holyoke
- HOW: A multimedia creative exercise for manifesting your future self facilitated by Jendi
ACCESSIBILITY DETAILS
- Venue and bathroom are wheelchair accessible
- Some traversing over gravel pathways required
- MASKS4MASKS: Masks are always encouraged and always free at the door.
- Masks will be required if COVID wastewater levels are high.
- Masks will be required to use the telescope regardless.
- AIR FLOW: The barn does not have A/C, but we will have fans (Please bring one if you got a good one!)
ABOUT THE FACILITATOR
Jendi Reiter (they/he) has taught oracular art-making classes at Ollom Movement Art in NYC and Mass Tarot Society in Florence. They are the author of 8 poetry&fiction books, most recently Origin Story (Saddle Road Press, 2024), an innovative literary novel about a gay comic-book writer in 1990s NYC who recovers buried memories of family secrets through his creative work. Jendi is the editor of WinningWriters.com, a resource site with markets and contests for creative writers
ABOUT ORIGIN STORY by Jendi Reiter (Saddle Road Press, 2024)
Origin Story follows queer/trans characters (2 adult, 1 teen) a variety of settings, such as a Miami comic-book convention, a Christian men's retreat in Georgia, a group foster home in Florida, a New Age wellness center, and a BDSM dungeon in Manhattan as they build homes/families strong enough to embrace their truths. Origin Story can be purchased at Broadside Books or at the event.
