Norman Rockwell Museum hosts family-friendly events and interactive experiences in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his enduring legacy. From January 18 to January 20, the Museum will host a series of programs focused on civil rights, social justice and activism, inspired by Dr. King’s powerful message of equality and unity
The family programs will engage visitors in discussions, storytelling and art that highlights the contributions of key figures in the civil rights movement, including Norman Rockwell’s civil rights paintings and portraits from the Anita Kunz: Original Sisters exhibition
Family Gallery Talks: Civil Rights Heroes
Saturday, January 18
9:30 a.m., 10:15 a.m., and 2:30 p.m.
Tours will explore artwork honoring the trailblazers of the civil rights movement in a conversation for families with children ages 5-10, with hands-on gallery activities to learn about Civil Rights leaders including Dr. King, Rosa Parks and others. Tours are limited to 25, and you may want to save your space ahead.
Story Time for Families: Shining a Light on Black Women’s Achievements

11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m.
Celebrate the accomplishments of Black women who had significant impact on civil rights, science, and beyond. Featured stories include those of Sojourner Truth, Althea Gibson, Coretta Scott King, Ruby Bridges, and Amanda Gorman, as seen in Anita Kunz’s Original
Sisters exhibition. This event is drop-in, and all are welcome.
MLK Weekend Gallery Tours: Norman Rockwell & Civil Rights
Saturday, Sunday and Monday at 1 p.m.
The museum will lead guided tours of Norman Rockwell’s iconic 1960s works, which captured the complexities of race, equality, and social justice in America. Learn how Rockwell’s art addressed the challenges of a racially diverse society and expressed his belief in tolerance and equality. Tours are limited to 25, and you may want to save your space ahead.
