Guided Hike: Stony Ledge
Date/Time
Location
Williamstown Rural Lands (671 Cold Spring Rd., Williamstown, MA 01267, Williamstown MA)
Williamstown Rural Lands will set out on a 6 mile moderately strenuous loop-hike to Stony Ledge, one of the most beautiful views in the hills, looking for clear views and robust fall color.
The group meet in the Haley Farm parking area at the end of the Hopper Road and then head up the Haley Farm Trail. The first mile of this trail is the most strenuous part of the hike, WRL says – steep in sections as it rises quickly through the forest to the top of the east-west ridge.
On mile 2, the trail moves in and out of rocky gullies to a view of Williamstown to the north and then climb a short, steep portion of the Stony Ledge Trail to the ledge a break and for taking in the views of Mount Greylock and surrounding peaks and down into the Hopper.
After relaxing for a bit on Stony Ledge, the group will walk a gentle mile down Sperry Road, through the campground to the Hopper Trail. The Hopper Trail travels 2.4 miles back down to Haley Farm. This trail is rocky and wet in sections, so be prepared with sturdy footwear.
Heavy rain cancels. WRL suggests:
Wear sturdy shoes or boots
Bring your own snack/lunch, plenty of water, and tick repellent
Dress for the expected weather
Dogs are welcome on-leash
