Georgia Pugh Seawalls: Then and Now front gallery

Date/Time

Location

Oxbow Art Gallery (40 Cottage Street, Easthampton, MA 01027, Easthampton MA)

Georgia Pugh lives and works in Hatfield, Massachusetts. The “Seawall Series” depict the results of high seas, storms and devastating coastal incursions brought about by climate change.  The work presents sea walls, broken remnants of iron, concrete, rock and rebar built to keep water from land.  Using imagery of these powerful, yet precarious forms, the artist provokes a sense of the perpetual interaction between human will and the forces of nature.

Ms. Pugh’s work can be found in collections throughout the United States, including the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the Philadelphia Museum, the Library of Congress, and the Boston Public Library.  Her paintings and drawings have been featured in solo and group exhibitions at such venues as the Mississippi Museum, Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, and at the Rockefeller Estate in Westchester County, NY. www.GeorgiaPugh.com.
