Facing a personal crisis, a playwright flies to Florence to study the letters between Galileo and his eldest daughter, Maria Celeste. An astronomer taught by her father, Maria joins a convent and fights for her father as the church threatens her father’s freedom and his life, and the writer’s discovery of Maria’s strength and tenacity inspires her own pursuit of purpose.

Alternating between past and present, the play examines faith, forgiveness, and the cost of seeking and speaking truth.

WAM presents Jessica Dickey’s work a co-production with Central Square Theater at the Elayne P. Bernstein Theatre at Shakespeare & Company in Lenox, directed by Reena Dutt. This production commits to equitable seating and will offer sliding scale ticket pricing.
