Emanuel Ax has been performing internationally since he won the first Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Competition in Tel Aviv in 1974. A longtime collaborator with the BSO and a Tanglewood regular, his 2019-2020 season included a European summer festivals tour with the Vienna Philharmonic and long-time collaborative partner Bernard Haitink, an Asian tour with the London Symphony and Sir Simon Rattle and three concerts with regular partners Leonidas Kavakos and Yo-Yo Ma at Carnegie Hall in March 2020. This summer, as concerts resume, he will perform at Tanglewood with the Boston Symphony and in a Beethoven trio program with partners Leonidas Kavakos and Yo-Yo Ma.

Paul Appleby’s 2020-21 season includes Metropolitan Opera productions of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg led by Sir Antonio Pappano and Rodelinda conducted by Harry Bicket and the tenor makes a company debut with Oper Köln in the title role of a new production of Béatrice et Bénédict under the baton of François-Xavier Roth.

With pianist Conor Hanick, Appleby gives a North American recital tour that brings him to New York City, Philadelphia, Berkeley, and Sacramento among others and he joins the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra for performances of Elijah conducted by Jun Markl. In association with the American Modern Opera Company, he will appear in programming throughout the United States including performances in San Francisco, at the Ojai Festival, and on the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Hailed as “the next Guarneri Quartet” (Chicago Tribune) and “the young American string quartet of the moment,” (New Yorker), the Dover Quartet catapulted to international stardom in 2013, following a sweep of all prizes at the Banff Competition, and has since become one of the most in-demand ensembles in the world.
