COMBO CHIMBITA
10:30 PM
El Combo Chimbita’s tropical futurism is an Afro-futurist revisioning of their Afro-Colombian roots. As diaspora artists living in NYC, the band’s sound has evolved by drawing equally from ancestral traditions and modernist visions.
The hypnotic, psychedelic sound is a groove-based ceremonial ritual of sorts, led by Carolina Herrera (vocals, guacharaca)— equal parts shaman and rock goddess — and driven by her bandmates: Dilemastronauta (drums); Niño Lento (guitar); and Prince of Queens (synths, bass). Their propulsive music started out as a Monday night jam session, 10 years ago, in Barbès.
